Tissue microarrays are paraffin blocks produced by extracting cylindrical tissue cores from different paraffin donor blocks and re-embedding these into a single recipient (microarray) block at defined array coordinates. Using this technique, multiple tissue samples can be arrayed into a single paraffin block. The use of tissue microarrays in combination with special applications like immunohistochemistry, immunofluorescence and fluorescent in-situ hybridization etc.. has been a preferred method to study and validate cancer biomarkers, drug discovery, product quality control in various diseased patient cohorts.
